NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series driver Stewart Friesen was injured in a fiery, multi-car crash at Autodrome Drummond racecourse in Canada on Monday.

Friesen fractured his pelvis and right leg, his wife Jessica announced in a social media post Tuesday morning.

The Ontario native was in “serious but stable condition” at a hospital in Quebec and was transferred to a hospital in New York on Wednesday, where he will undergo “multiple surgeries” in the coming days, she announced in an update Tuesday night.

Friesen was injured while competing in a Super DIRTcar Series race at Autodrome Drummond. In a video posted to social media, his No. 44 car is seen tipping onto its right side and colliding with the outside retaining wall before barrel-rolling over the barrier multiple times and eventually catching fire. He was alert and communicating with paramedics and officials on site before he was removed from the car, according to NASCAR.

“The outpouring of support from all of our racing family has been overwhelming, in the best way,” Jessica wrote in her update Tuesday night. “Thank you for all of your outreach and encouragement as we continue to work through the next steps in Stewart’s recovery.”

Friesen earned his 52nd career Super DIRTcar Series win on Saturday at Weedsport Speedway in Weedsport, New York. He celebrated his 42nd birthday on Friday.

He was scheduled to compete at Autodrome Drummond on both Monday and Tuesday prior to his crash.

Friesen, who has competed in NASCAR’s Craftsman Truck Series since 2016, has four career victories – most recently on June 7 at Michigan International Speedway. In 16 races this season, he has one first-place finish, three top-five finishes, and six top-10 finishes.
