A recent Léger poll conducted for Allstate Insurance reveals over half of Canadian drivers feel their concentration suffer due to seasonal stress and fatigue
A new survey suggests many Canadians are heading into the holiday travel season feeling distracted, stressed and less focused behind the wheel.
The Léger poll, conducted for Allstate Insurance Company of Canada, found that 52 per cent of respondents say holiday stress, fatigue and social commitments affect their concentration when driving. Nearly one-third (29 per cent) say their general state of mind has a significant impact on how they drive.
Younger adults report the highest levels of distraction. Almost two-thirds of drivers ages 18 to 34 say they struggle more to stay focused during the holidays, compared to 41 per cent of respondents 55 and older.
External factors also weigh heavily on drivers. 72 per cent of drivers cite winter weather as a major challenge, followed by heavier traffic at 47 per cent, and reduced daylight at 39 per cent.
Allstate says the combination of holiday errands, social gatherings and longer road trips may be stretching many drivers thin and increasing risks on the road.
