Plans to release Rob Reiner’s final film are being put on pause following The Princess Bride director’s tragic death.
Rob Reiner — known for directing a large handful of beloved movies like 1984’s This Is Spinal Tap, 1986’s Stand By Me, 1987’s The Princess Bride, 1989’s When Harry Met Sally…, 1990’s Misery, and 1992’s A Few Good Men, among many others — tragically was found dead with his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, in their Brentwood home on Sunday afternoon.
Reiner’s son, Nick Reiner, was arrested on Sunday night and is currently being held in a Los Angeles County jail without bail on suspicion of murder, per The New York Times.
What Rob Reiner movie has been delayed?
Per Variety, Bleecker Street has decided to delay releasing Reiner’s final film, a Spinal Tap concert movie titled Spinal Tap at Stonehenge: The Final Finale, for the time being. The movie did not previously have an exact release date, though Bleecker Street did say it would be coming out in theaters and IMAX in 2026.
The article states, “In light of Reiner’s death, plans to release the film are on hold for now until ‘the best path forward is decided with those closest to Rob and his family,’ sources said.”
A description of the movie reads, “The concert-film follows legendary fictional heavy metal band Spinal Tap (Christopher Guest, Michael McKean, and Harry Shearer reprising their iconic roles) as they put on a once-in-a-lifetime concert marking the first-ever rock show filmed at Stonehenge, the historic English heritage site forever linked to Spinal Tap’s iconic song of the same name. The film features show-stopping guest performances from Shania Twain, Eric Clapton, and Josh Groban.”
This Is Spinal Tap was the first movie that Reiner ever directed. Reiner also helmed a sequel, titled Spinal Tap II: The End Continues, that released earlier this year.
