Kristin Cabot and now-former Astronomer CEO Andy Byron were cuddling when the band’s famous kiss-cam showed the pair on the big screen during the July 16 show in Boston.

What appeared to be a sweet moment between a loving couple quickly dissolved as the two untangled themselves from one another like they were on fire.

The move prompted Coldplay frontman Chris Martin to joke to the crowd: “Either they’re having an affair or they’re just very shy.”
The video was posted to social media and immediately sparked intense scrutiny and a backlash that ending up seeing both Cabot and Byron lose their jobs.
What Cabot says happened
After months of silence, Cabot has addressed the insanely viral moment, chalking it up to a one-time, boozy mistake.

“I made a bad decision and had a couple of High Noons and danced and acted inappropriately with my boss,” the 53-year-old told the New York Times.
“And it’s not nothing. And I took accountability and I gave up my career for that. That’s the price I chose to pay.”
Cabot admitted that she had a “crush” on Byron and was excited to introduce him to her friends.
Until that night, she said, she and Byron hadn’t even kissed, however, during the concert, they shared tequila cocktails, danced together and exchanged their first — and only, she says — kiss.
What Cabot has experienced in aftermath
Since the viral moment, Cabot has received dozens of death threats, been branded an “adulterer” by people she encounters, and been publicly shamed and mocked on social media and by celebrities.

She went on to describe the moment as a “cliché,” adding, “I want my kids to know that you can make mistakes, and you can really screw up. But you don’t have to be threatened to be killed for them.”
Cabot recalled how she instantly felt “embarrassed and so horrified,” with two things concerning her most — her career and her estranged husband Andrew, who was on a date at the same concert.
The Cabots were separated at the time after two years of marriage, but she told the Times she did not want to embarrass her ex.
She also knew how bad it looked from a professional standpoint.
“I’m the head of HR and he’s the CEO,” she recalled to the Times, also calling it “so cliché and so bad.”
Cabot and Byron devised a plan
Cabot and Byron sat at the bar and then went to her apartment where they set out to begin damage control, including writing up an email to inform the Astronomer board what happened.

But by the time they sent it the next morning, the kiss-cam footage had already gone viral.
The company put them both on leave and launched an investigation, which soon ended with Byron stepping down as CEO, followed by Cabot submitting her resignation.
Cabot officially filed for divorce from Andrew on Aug. 13, less than a month after the concert.
Andrew confirmed in a statement at the time that they had plans to end their marriage long before the concert.
Cabot noted that her ex, who has not spoken out again since his statement, has been “nothing but a gentleman” in the aftermath.
Where they are now
Cabot said that she and Byron kept in touch throughout the summer, but by September, they stopped communicating, agreeing that it was making it “too hard for everyone to move on and heal.”

Cabot’s teenage children are now in therapy, she added, but their schoolmates have been kind to them.
Meanwhile, Cabot, who was afraid to leave the house due to the treats, has started venturing out again.
Byron and his wife Megan are still married and are now living in Massachusetts.
