Golden State Valkyries v Atlanta Dream

An unwelcome guest showed up to the Atlanta Dream–versus–Golden State Valkyries game on Tuesday night, and it wasn’t Shane Gillis. With less than a minute of play left during a tied fourth quarter, a bright-green dildo was seemingly thrown through the air. It landed on the free-throw line and bounced close to the sidelines at the Gateway Center Arena, causing the game to be briefly paused for its removal. After some confusion and laughs, the game continued on dildo free with the Valkyries beating the Dream 77-75.

A few players were asked about the incident during a postgame press conference, including Valkyries forward Cecilia Zandalasini. “I mean, first of all, it was super-dangerous,” she said while giggling. “And then when we found out what it was, I guess we just started laughing. I’ve never seen anything like that. I’m just glad we worked through that situation. We stayed locked in; we stayed concentrated.”

The dildo culprit is still at large, and, like everyone else, I have some questions for them. How did this get past security? Why is it lime green? Why, of all times, was it tossed during the final seconds of a tied game? Who spent money on a dildo just to throw it away?

While the toy’s launch was a bit obstructive and potentially dangerous — dildos can be heavy, okay? — some WNBA players appear to be making light of the sex-toy spectacle. Sydney Colson, an Indiana Fever point guard, tweeted, “Sorry I did NOT mean to throw that so far y’all,” while Kierstan Bell, a Las Vegas Aces guard, reposted the clip, adding, “Damn how my shit get there.”

I guess launching a lime-green dildo can help you get noticed by WNBA players, but please — next time just listen to the Stud Budz and grab a seat courtside instead of throwing something at the athletes.
