Most top tennis players have a really busy offseason because “offseason” in many ways is just preseason in tennis. You don’t get a lot of time off, and you have to squeeze in both a vacation, if that’s your thing, and a preseason where you try to improve and prepare for the next campaign.
That’s why the part of the year when tennis players should theoretically be resting can be every bit as chaotic as the real deal. So we went out to try and find out who did what and where ahead of the new season, which is slowly but surely approaching. Spoiler alert: the Maldives are very popular, and apparently, so is Formula One.
Carlos Alcaraz
It was very much Bienvenido a Miami for Carlos Alcaraz, who visited the famous location for a bit of work and pleasure. The Spaniard took part in an exhibition event that featured other players such as Tiafoe and Fonseca, because even on vacation, tennis players can’t help but hit some tennis balls.
After fulfilling his exhibition duties, Alcaraz did what any self-respecting sports fan would do in Miami: he caught an NBA game, watched Messi and Inter Miami play, and then spent quality time enjoying the sunny beaches that South Florida has to offer. It’s the kind of offseason itinerary that makes you wonder if he actually rested at all or just switched from tennis courts to basketball courts to football pitches.
Overall, it was a very short but eventful trip for Alcaraz, who by now is surely working very hard for the upcoming season. The Australian Open is an event he still hasn’t won, and considering he’s already collected three other Slams, that Melbourne trophy is probably keeping him up at night. Of note, Alcaraz also split with his coach Juan Carlos Ferrero, a former top Spanish pro.
Jannik Sinner
While you might expect Sinner to be somewhat off the radar considering how dedicated and low-key he typically is, he actually popped up in a few spots. It wasn’t exactly that he wanted to be spotted, but when you attend a big Formula One race in the Persian Gulf, you’re likely to end up on someone’s Instagram story, and he did.
On top of that, Sinner was spotted making his way to the Maldives, which is a popular tennis destination for many players ahead of the new season. The warm weather permits practicing in conditions similar to what awaits them in Australia once they touch down. Other than that? Pretty chill from Sinner. If you can call flying to exotic locations and preparing for world-class tennis “chill.”
Alexander Zverev
Zverev and Sinner were, funnily enough, on the same flight toward the Maldives, which shouldn’t shock any Zverev fan. The German loves that place and visits it yearly, oftentimes ahead of the new season, bringing his whole family along with him.
This year is no exception, though fans will be hoping that this annual pilgrimage to paradise finally amounts to something more than a rather disappointing season where he once again failed to really assert himself as one of the better players in the world, which he absolutely has the capabilities to be. Maybe this year the Maldives magic will finally kick in? One can hope.
Novak Djokovic
Novak Djokovic had a pretty low-key offseason by his standards. He didn’t really show up in some extreme location halfway across the world, though he was spotted in Qatar for Formula One as well as some padel.
Actually, padel has been on his mind a lot lately because he was also spotted playing it in his native Serbia recently. Is this the beginning of a post-tennis career? Only time will tell, but for now, it seems like Djokovic is just enjoying swinging a racket at something other than tennis balls for a change.
He also spent some time in Greece, but considering he lives there, that shouldn’t be a massive surprise. We’ll see if all of that helped him recharge his batteries enough to maybe challenge for the Australian Open trophy, a tournament he’s won a record ten times, in case anyone forgot.
Felix Auger-Aliassime
Felix Auger-Aliassime had a smashing end to the season, earning a career-high ranking of number five, and he took a well-deserved vacation after that achievement. He spent the rest of his time mostly in his home base of Monaco, enjoying the simple life while getting ready for the upcoming season.
And by “simple life,” we mean living in one of the most glamorous locations in the world where the yachts outnumber the parking spots. But hey, it’s all relative. Much like his colleagues, he’s been practicing by now to try and build upon that amazing finish to the year. The goal? Turn that career-high into a career-defining breakthrough.
Taylor Fritz
As a California native, Fritz elected to spend his time recharging at home, and who could blame him? It’s a perfect location to do that with temperate weather, beautiful scenery, and enough parties for somebody looking to let loose a little bit.
Fritz did exactly that: letting loose a bit, attending NBA games, and similar activities that make you go, “Wait, isn’t that just what he does during the season too?” Overall, pretty homebound for Fritz, who spends most of his time away from home as most tennis players do. Sometimes the best vacation is simply sleeping in your own bed and not having to pack a suitcase for once.
Alex de Minaur
De Minaur has been low-key, as is typical of him. The Aussie isn’t one for flashy offseason social media posts or tabloid sightings. He spent time in Monaco getting ready for the UTS in London, where he played amazing tennis, and after that, he took a vacation with his partner, fellow tennis player Katie Boulter, spending time in the South of Spain where he grew up.
The Australian Swing is a huge part of the season for the Australian (shocking, we know), and he’ll try to be ready for it. Expect him to arrive in Melbourne with that trademark intensity and a bit of a tan from his Spanish getaway.
Lorenzo Musetti
Musetti hasn’t really been spotted out and about too much, and for good reason, it’s been rather busy times for him. He became a father once more, which we congratulate him on wholeheartedly. Babies don’t exactly respect offseason schedules, so that probably explains the low profile.
He’s also been spotted in Monaco more recently, preparing for the upcoming season after failing to really impose his will last year considering how many expected him to make a massive leap. With a growing family and renewed motivation, perhaps 2026 will be the year Musetti puts it all together. Sleep deprivation from late-night feedings aside, of course.
Ben Shelton
There is not much to be said about Ben Shelton, who has been mostly out of sight during this offseason, likely spending time with his family back in Florida where he lives. The American spent much of this year away from home, so getting a chance to be back where he feels most comfortable is something he won’t miss.
No exotic destinations, no Formula One races, no Instagram posts from beach clubs. Just good old-fashioned family time in the Sunshine State. Sometimes that’s exactly what you need to reset before another grueling season of globe-trotting and competing at the highest level.
Jack Draper
Draper has been spending most of his time in London like a proper London lad. He’s had an unfortunate 2025 with a lot of missed time due to injuries, and he’s been spotted working hard in the gym to prepare for the upcoming season, which in many ways could be career-defining.
The outings he did attend were meaningful: an Alzheimer’s charity event, which he’s a passionate advocate for. It’s a reminder that these players are more than just athletes swinging rackets. They’re people with causes they care about, and Draper is using his platform for good while simultaneously trying to get his body right for what he hopes will be a healthy and successful 2026.
