Peel police are investigating after a Friday night shooting in Mississauga left one man dead, police said.
The shooting happened near Goreway Drive and Morning Star Drive just before 10 p.m. on Friday, according to Peel Regional Police (PRP) Saturday.
The victim suffered gunshot wounds and was taken to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead, police said Saturday.
The age of the victim is not being released out of respect for the victim’s family, Peel police Const. Taylor Halfyard said at a news conference Saturday afternoon.
“What I can say is that there is not a public safety concern for any residents in this area and that this appears to be an isolated incident,” Halfyard said.
PRP has an increased presence in the area and the PRP homicide unit is investigating the incident, according to the post.
Halfyard confirmed investigators are also looking into an “accident” involving a vehicle where the shooting happened, but said police would not provide further details as the investigation is still ongoing.
“There’s a lot of elements to the investigation that are still being looked at by investigators,” Halfyard told reporters.
Police are asking anyone who witnessed the event to contact police.
