How are you at golf? I don’t really have the patience for it (as much as I do love a golf buggy), however my family are nutty for golf and I am just booking an activity filled holiday in Tasmania, that includes Barnbougle Dunes Golf Links.

Even though I’m officially a “golf widow”, I’m super excited. I get to shop, chill, sip Pinot – it’s all good – everyone wins. Therefore, even though I suck at golf, bring on that golfing holiday.

Golf can take you to some of the most breathtaking destinations, with the most spectacular backdrops in the world.

From the misty greens of the Old Course in Scotland, to the Japan’s Fuji course where cherry blossom petals sprinkle the fairway, golf holidays are a traveller’s delight.

We Aussies are an adventurous bunch. Compare the Market research found around 55 per cent of us have a sports holiday on their bucket list, from hot air ballooning to skiing.

And it’s getting easier to organise. Some airlines now offer free travel for one set of golf clubs, bikes and surfboards as part of standard checked baggage – as long as they meet the dimension requirements.

But trust me on this, if you love travelling domestically or internationally for sports – be it golf, triathlons, or snowboarding – getting travel insurance is essential.

It’s all too easy to get swept up in the excitement — the packing, the planning, the promise of postcard-perfect fairways — but things can go wrong when you least expect it.

From flight delays to surprise illnesses, and heaven forbid, your beloved golf clubs going MIA… the list of potential travel travesties is endless.

Some sporting gear could cost more than buying a brand-new car, so it’s really crucial to specify those higher value items in your policy and ensure the limit for luggage and personal effects cover is appropriate.

Otherwise, you could be looking at a big hole in your wallet.

Speaking of holes, if you really are a nifty golfer, you might have heard of hole-in-one insurance. This one tickled me.

In some countries, it’s a cultural tradition for any player who gets a hole-in-one to buy champagne for the other players in the clubhouse.

Hole-in-one insurance exists to help you cover the cost that can climb into the thousands of dollars.

I don’t think that’s an add-on I’ll need anytime soon but let’s just say, I’m happy to wait in the clubhouse if it happens for someone else.

Pack your sense of adventure, and don’t forget the insurance. You’ll thank yourself later.
