The Cleveland Guardians often find a way to add intriguing pitchers to their roster.

They did it again on Monday.

The latest signing is Codi Heuer, a 6-foot-5 right-handed reliever, who was signed to a minor league contract with an invite to spring training, according to MLB.com’s Tim Stebbins.

Heuer was originally a sixth-round draft pick of the Chicago White Sox in 2018 from Wichita State.

He made his MLB debut in 2020 with the White Sox, putting up a 1.52 ERA in 21 games.

He then pitched in 40 games with the White Sox in 2021 (5.12 ERA) before ending that season with 25 more games with the Chicago Cubs (3.14 ERA).

Injuries kept Heuer away from an MLB mound for the next three seasons.

He returned to the majors in 2025 for a total of three appearances.

One was made with the Texas Rangers, as Heuer allowed one run in 1.1 innings pitched.

Then with the Detroit Tigers, Heuer pitched in two more games, allowing two runs in 3.1 innings pitched.

Heuer is obviously a bit of a roll of the dice given his injury history, but all told, he has a career 3.67 ERA in the big leagues.

The Guardians have been known to make things work with pitchers, and Heuer is just 29 years old, so there’s time to maximize his ability still. It’s a worthwhile low-risk move by Cleveland.
