The Winnipeg Blue Bombers announced a few changes to the coaching staff on Monday, with Tommy Condell named the team’s newest offensive coordinator.

Additionally, defensive lineman Jake Thomas has retired after a 13-year career with Winnipeg and has been named the defensive line coach for the 2026 season, replacing retiring coach Darrell Patterson. Jason Hogan will return as a running backs coach after being relieved of offensive coordinator duties following the 2025 campaign.

Condell joins the Blue Bombers after spending the last two years as the offensive coordinator with the Ottawa Redblacks. He has made five stops across the CFL in a coaching career that has spanned over 20 years. He has also made multiple stops with schools in the NCAA and Arena Football League.

Condell began his CFL career with the Blue Bombers in 1997 as the special teams coordinator on Jeff Reinebold’s staff and has experience in the league with the Ottawa Renegades (2004-05), Saskatchewan Roughriders (2006), Hamilton Tiger-Cats (2014-15; 2020-23), Toronto Argonauts (2017-18) and Redblacks (2024-25).

Condell helped the Toronto Argonauts to a Grey Cup title while working as the wide receivers coach in the 2017 season. He was promoted to offensive coordinator the following year, and retained that role with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (2019-23) and Redblacks (2024-present).

The Redblacks ranked eighth in offensive points in 2025, with four different quarterbacks forced into the starting role due to injury problems.

Thomas steps into a new role as the defensive line coach after playing in 223 regular season games and five Grey Cups. He was a key member of the Grey Cup-winning teams in 2019 and 2021, and his 223 career games rank fourth highest in Blue Bombers history after only Bob Cameron (394), Troy Westwood (293) and Chris Walby (249).
