One week from Wednesday history will take place at Fitzpatrick Stadium in Portland.
Maine’s professional soccer team, the Portland Hearts of Pine, will be playing their first ever international game.
They’ll be hosting the Halifax Wanderer from the Canadian Premier League in what’s called a friendly.
Governor Janet Mills was instrumental in making this happen after a trip to Atlantic Canada in June.
The game was discussed during the governor’s meeting with Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston during their bilateral meeting in Halifax.
The game is on August 6. The kickoff time is 6:30 p.m. The game is sold out, except for a limited number of tickets for Halifax supporters.
Last month, Governor Mills visited New Brunswick and Nova Scotia to reaffirm Maine’s ties with Atlantic Canada, and to promote Maine as a great place to visit and do business.
Maine’s economy is deeply intertwined with Canada’s, and last year, the state traded more than $6 billion in goods with its northern neighbor.
In this segment, Gov. Mills discusses not only next week’s game, but how we can improve relations with Canada and promote Maine more north of the border.
