A 22‑year‑old Instagram creator, Ishan Shanavas, posted a mesmerising video of a green vine snake (genus Ahaetulla) blending flawlessly into the foliage of the Western Ghats. In the clip, shot deep inside a forest, Ishan guides viewers’ eyes to a dense cluster of bushes and says, “Okay, so when you look from afar in this bush, you might not be able to see anything. If you look really close, you can spot a green vine snake.”

As the camera zooms in, the snake’s slender body is revealed. Ishan notes the reptile is aware of human presence and is trying to slip away, though it’s already been noticed.

The clip has racked up over 3.1 million views and sparked a wave of amazement.

Commenters praised the snake’s “flawless” camouflage and the calm, educational narration. “One of the most beautiful species,” wrote one user. Another added, “It took me a while to notice, but yeah it’s there!” Many highlighted the video’s showcase of understated survival tactics in the biodiversity‑rich Western Ghats.

The green vine snake relies more on stillness and disguise than speed or strength, using its leaf‑green colouration and elongated body to vanish among vines and twigs. When threatened, it may sway gently with the wind, making the illusion even more convincing.
