The Edmonton Elks ride a three-game winning streak into their Labor Day showdown with the Calgary Stampeders top-ranked defense.
The Edmonton Elks (4-6) have climbed back into playoff contention with three straight victories but are 0-4 against West Division foes as they visit the Calgary Stampeders (7-3) on Monday at McMahon Stadium in Calgary. The Stampeders have won their last two, including handing the West-leading Saskatchewan Roughriders just their second loss of the season last week. Calgary has allowed a league-low 207 points this season and also owns the top rushing attack in the CFL at 118.2 yards per game. The teams will meet twice this week, as they will run it back in Edmonton on Saturday.

Cody Fajardo completed 22-of-28 passes for 270 yards and ran for a major score, as the Elks picked up a 30-20 road win over the Ottawa RedBlacks on Aug. 22. Javon Leake gave Edmonton a 17-0 lead early in the second quarter with an 80-yard punt return touchdown and Justin Rankin ran for a TD in the win. Noah Taylor picked up a pair of sacks.
Calgary improved to 2-0 against Saskatchewan on Aug. 23 with a 32-15 win at home, shutting out the Roughriders after trailing 15-14 at the half. Dedrick Mills ran for 78 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries and Vernon Adams threw for three TDs despite being picked off twice. Clarence Hicks had two of the Stampeders’ four sacks, while Sheldon Arnold II and Godfrey Onyeka had interceptions.
Monday’s game is the first meeting over the season between the Alberta rivals, who will close out the regular season in Edmonton on Oct. 24. Mills is third in the CFL with 738 rushing yards for the Stamps and is tied for the league lead with eight touchdowns on the ground. Adams has thrown for 2,435 yards, while Fajardo leads the CFL with a 77.7 completion percentage and the Elks are 3-2 since he replaced Tre Ford as the starter.
