Second-round matches will take place on day two at the ATP Los Cabos Open with several big names set to take to the court including the top seed. As always, we at LWOT will offer predictions for every match on the slate but who will advance to the quarterfinals in Mexico?

ATP Los Cabos Day 3 Predictions
Bu Yunchaokete vs Emilio Nava

Head-to-Head: first meeting

Bu Yunchaokete played a great second set against Alan Magadan to get his first tour-level win since March, becoming the first Chinese player to win a match at the ATP Los Cabos Open – a curious rather than career-defining stat. Bu did well to save six of the seven break points he faced and took his opportunities when presented. Emilio Nava, meanwhile, played a fantastic match on serve to get a big, much-needed win over Aleksandar Vukic. Nava strick 11 aces and will be a threat if he keeps this level against Bu. This has the makings of a close match, but the American should have just about enough to advance.

Prediction: Nava in 3

Daniel Altmaier vs Tristan Schoolkate

Head-to-Head: first meeting

Daniel Altmaier played one of his best hard-court matches of the season to beat Mitchell Krueger in the first round. The fifth seed, who is generally more at home on the clay but seems to be finding the conditions in Los Cabos to his liking, served eight aces and was broken only once in the match. If he can sustain that level, he might be set for a deep run this week. Tristan Schoolkate needed a win, and he got that from a set down against Wu Yibing. Schoolkate after an error-strewn first set, managed to find his range for the remainder of the match. That win took the Australian to within on victory of potentially making his top 100 debut, but will need to play even better to take out the German. It might be a challenge too far.

Prediction: Altmaier in 3

Denis Shapovalov vs Govind Nanda

Head-to-Head: first meeting

Denis Shapovalov will be disappointed with his first-round exit at Wimbledon, where he was the overwhelming favourite against Mariano Navone. He will look to start the North American hard-court swing with a solid win, and he has been granted a favourable opener. Govind Nanda got his first tour-level win by defeating his countryman, Colton Smith, in straight sets. Nanda made a lot of first serves and kept ticking off his service games. However, his opponent made a lot of errors, and Shapovalov’s power and level means this will be a completely different challenge.

Prediction: Shapovalov in 2

Andrey Rublev vs Alex Hernandez

Head-to-Head: first meeting

World #10, Andrey Rublev, is making his ATP Los Cabos Open debut and will be looking to get off to a good start. Rublev is the top seed here and the favourite to win the title, and could do with a deep run to kick off the North American hard-court swing after a difficult year so far. He will face local wild card Alex Hernandez in his opener. The Mexican who battled his way past Taro Daniel in the first round to claim just his second tour-level win for the Mexican, spurring emotional scenes on court. However, there is little reason to think he will get a third this week.

Prediction: Rublev in 2
