More than $100,000 worth of electronics and merchandise has been found after five people, including two employees of an Amazon Fulfillment Centre in Ajax, allegedly stole around $2 million worth of items from the online retailer.

On Dec. 17, Durham police said they launched an investigation in November into a pair of employees who worked at the fulfillment centre located at 789 Salem Road.

Investigators said they were contacted by Amazon’s loss prevention team after it was alleged the workers were responsible for the thefts that spanned over two years.

Amazon theft Ajax, Ont. Five people were arrested after more than $2 million worth of merchandise was stolen from an Amazon warehouse in Ajax, Ont., according to police.

Durham police arrested the two employees before executing a search warrant at a home in Scarborough. Three more suspects from Scarborough and Newmarket were arrested as a result, police said.

In total, police said they seized over $250,000 in high-end electronics and $50,000 in cash.

Investigators now say they located an additional $130,000 worth of electronics and merchandise during a search warrant at a storage locker in Newmarket on Dec. 23.

Mehul Baldevbhai Patel, 36, from Newmarket faces additional charges of possession of stolen property over $5000.

He was previously charged with possession of property obtained by crime for the purpose of trafficking, as well as various fraud and theft charges.

Investigators are asking anyone with additional information to contact them or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
