Emma Raducanu has experienced another turbulent year. The British tennis sensation ended 2025 ranked 29th in the world, having accumulated £1million in prize money.

While a singles title eluded her grasp, she equalled or bettered her previous performances at the Australian Open, progressing to the third round, and the French Open, where she exited in the second round. At Wimbledon, she gave world number one Aryna Sabalenka a stern test, falling short after two closely fought sets. Coaching changes and fitness setbacks have once again been a prominent feature. Raducanu has enlisted Francisco Roig, instrumental in Rafael Nadal‘s triumphs, while her campaign concluded prematurely in mid-October due to physical difficulties, forcing her withdrawal from her second-round encounter at the Wuhan Open.

Dresscode row

In March, three months prior to Wimbledon, she faced accusations of breaching a 150-year regulation at the All England Club. Rules require players to wear entirely white clothing during both training sessions and competitive matches.

Nevertheless, the 2021 US Open winner was allegedly spotted on court wearing “whatever she want[ed],” purportedly sporting a pink ensemble during a practice session. The Daily Mail claimed her behaviour had been “enraging members” of the esteemed club.

One displeased member said: “It’s so unfair. Who does she think she is? Just because she’s won the US Open doesn’t mean she can wear whatever she wants.”

The All England Club’s dresscode, which dates back to the 1880s, stipulates that players must wear “suitable tennis attire that is almost entirely white” from the instant they enter the court. Raducanu appeared to have been reminded of the regulations as she was seen at the 2025 championship training in a completely white outfit.

£3million loss

Following her remarkable US Open victory at 18, Raducanu had secured millions through various profitable commercial partnerships. Nevertheless, she experienced a financial setback when Vodafone ended its association with her.

The telecommunications company dropped Raducanu for ‘demanding too much money’, according to the Daily Mail. The British number one had signed her multi-million-pound deal with Vodafone at the close of 2021, acting as their principal tennis ambassador.

Some of her responsibilities were reduced in 2023 when she concluded her season prematurely to undergo three operations. At the time, Vodafone said: “Emma is still one of Vodafone’s valued ambassadors. She will continue to play a key role in our Wimbledon campaign.”

Raducanu maintains agreements with brands such as Dior, Tiffany and Co., Evian, British Airways and Nike. However, her Vodafone partnership was thought to be the most valuable, believed to be worth approximately £3million.

Another new coach

The 22-year-old expressed her excitement about working with Roig ahead of the US Open. The respected Spaniard worked closely with Nadal and his uncle Toni throughout most of Nadal’s illustrious career, which featured 22 Grand Slam victories.

Speaking about her collaboration with Roig, Raducanu told Sky Sports: “He’s obviously got a bank of experience and I’m very excited to continue working with him and to have him on my side.”

Raducanu disclosed that she is focusing on certain areas with Roig. She added: “I’m working on the quality of my shots. I think against the very top [players], that’s what it needs, it needs to improve.

“So I’m hoping that with time – I’m pretty patient, I’m going to try and be pretty patient – that it’ll improve.”
