However, despite both Samsung and Apple going for wider foldable phones with a 4:3 aspect ratio inner display, the Samsung Wide Fold seems to have a sharper, more angular aesthetic. The iPhone Fold, on the other hand, has a design akin to the original Google Pixel Fold with round edges.

The original Oppo Find N’s wider and shorter design had its merits. It was super compact when folded and, when unfolded, opened in a landscape orientation, which many prefer over the portrait orientation popularized by the Galaxy Z Fold series. So, we are excited to see Apple do something different than Samsung and prioritize a Passport-style form factor.

That said, the Samsung Wide Fold and the iPhone Fold are expected to be available in the second half of 2026. There is still a lot of time for both Samsung and Apple to change their plans. So, take all rumors, including those about form factor and designs, with a grain of salt.
