The Australian Open organisers have unveiled a powerhouse roster of tennis superstars set to compete in the innovative Million Dollar 1 Point Slam event. Scheduled for Wednesday, January 14, at Melbourne Park’s iconic Rod Laver Arena. The event is scheduled during the Australian Open’s ‘Opening Week,’ which takes place from January 12-17 and includes qualifying rounds, charity matches, the draw ceremony, and Kids Tennis Day.
The Million Dollar 1 Point Slam will see 22 pros compete against 10 amateurs from across the country for their chance to take home $1 million. The amateurs will qualify through community-hosted events across Australia, organised by Tennis Australia.
It works like a regular elimination draw, but with a fun element as ‘rock, paper, scissors’, will be used to determine who serves or receives. Whoever wins the point wins the match and progresses to the next round, while the loser of the point is eliminated from the event. The winner of the final match wins the $1 million prize. 10 professional players have been confirmed so far for the second edition of this event.
