Teachers' Association Raises Alarm Over Student Absenteeism Rates

NLTA President Dale Lambe (VOCM News)

As another year winds to a close, absenteeism remains an issue in the province’s schools.

The President of the Newfoundland and Labrador Teachers’ Association, Dale Lambe, says they have been working with government on ways to address that issue.

He says sometimes a student not going to school comes down to their parents choosing not to send them, but there are other factors that can also be at play such as food security and other socio-economic struggles. He says they are working with the province on ways to get kids back in school, because when they are not in class it raises concerns about what else they are doing.
