This December, Christmas cheer is evident at the Vita and District Health Centre as each department in the facility has decorated their space for the annual Christmas contest. And this year, judges chose the PCH Nursing Department as the winner, taking home a $250 Co-op gift card.

Hand-crafted decorations stand out

Reeve for the RM of Stuartburn, Michelle Gawronski, says that the PCH Nursing department impressed judges with hand-crafted decorations that lined the hallways and lit up the entire area. She adds that residents were thrilled to see the displays.

“Residents were very quick to point out their favourites,” she said.

She congratulated everyone involved in making the space feel festive. “Congratulations to all who made this area so festive. Well done!”

A tough decision for judges

With several departments putting in time and effort, choosing a winner was not easy.

“The decision was made more difficult with the time and effort put forward by the other decorated departments,” Gawronski said. “Congratulations to all, it is this dedication that shows just how much everyone cares. It helps to boost the morale of not only staff, but of the people that live there.”

Joy is shared by residents and staff

Gawronski says the reaction from residents and visitors was heart-warming.

“It was fun! And hearing the staff laughing, the residents’ excitement was so great!!” she said.

Departments taking part in the contest included the Activities Department, Hospital staff, PCH Nursing, and Administration.

Residents lend a helping hand

Residents of the Personal Care Home were also involved, helping make snowflakes used throughout the displays. Nursing staff at the PCH added to the décor by hand-making several unique decorations, adding a personal touch to the halls.

Decorations stay up into January

The holiday cheer will continue into the new year. Gawronski says decorations will remain up until Ukrainian Christmas on January 7, with the Foundation planning a January celebration to help extend the holidays for residents.

Foundation shows appreciation for staff

Gawronski also highlighted the Foundation’s efforts to thank staff for their hard work.

Appreciation gift boxes were provided to all 12 departments, filled with cookies, candy, chocolates, peanuts, chips, dips, and other treats. The Foundation also purchased a new coffee maker for the staff lunchroom, along with several cases of coffee and different kinds of hot chocolate.

“We are wishing everyone a wonderful Christmas and are so appreciative of each and every staff member,” Gawronski said. “It is their kindness and attitude that makes the place a great place for the residents to live.”
