Dharamsala witnessed a cycle ride event that was formally flagged off at the SAI synthetic track outside the cricket ground on the fifth day of Kangra Carnival on Sunday. Participants of various age groups actively participated in the cycle ride and displayed excellent sportsmanship.
Dharamshala Mayor Neenu Sharma inaugurated the event-being, hosted for the first time on such a scale, marking its official commencement as a calendar event. The programme witnessed the presence of several prominent dignitaries, reflecting strong administrative and civic support for the initiative. Former Mayor Devendra Jaggi, Deputy Mayor Tajinder Kaur, Councillor Anurag, Kangra Deputy Commissioner Hemraj Bairwa, Superintendent of Police Ashok Ratna, Municipal Corporation Commissioner Iqbal Zafar, Additional Deputy Commissioner Vinay Kumar and SDM Mohit Rattan, among others were present on the occasion. The event aimed to promote fitness, environmental awareness and community participation, and was welcomed with great enthusiasm by participants and spectators alike.
Shivesh Bisht shines in 40-km event
While distributing prizes, Deputy Commissioner Bairwa said that such events increased health awareness among the youth and promotes a sporting culture.
In the 10-km category, Akash Verma secured the first place in the men’s category, Vaibhav Kapoor came second while Aarav Kapoor was adjudged third. Bhagyashree Khanka secured the first place in the women’s category.
In the 20-km cycling competition, Venkateshan secured the first place in the men’s category, Vishal Sharma came second and Satvik Basta was third. Sunita secured the first place in the women’s category, Ashmita second and Muskan third.
In the 40-km competition, Shivesh Bisht secured first place in the men’s category, Atul Kumar second and Ashish Bisht third. Shivangi secured the first place in the women’s category, Anushka Yadav second, and Megha Jain third.
