For a few hours, some Strava users believed Jonas Vingegaard had struck back at Tadej Pogačar. Well, at least on the app. This time though, it actually didn’t happen, Strava. According to Ouest-France, a prankster created a fake Strava profile in the name of the Danish Tour de France winner and uploaded a ride that wiped out Pogacar’s King of the Mountain time on the Coll de Rates near Benidorm, Spain.
The performance quickly raised eyebrows for those in the know. Vingegaard is currently back home in Denmark spending time with his family. You know, holidays and such. (God Jul!) Plus, his real Strava account has not shown any activity since March 2021. The suspicious activity was later revealed to have been completed by scooter rather than by cykel.
The fraudulent effort listed a time of 11 minutes and 49 seconds, faster than Pogačar’s recent benchmark. After being reported by users, the activity was removed, and the world champ’s KOM—11 minutes and 57 seconds—was reinstated.
Pogačar had set the time on Dec. 19 on the 6.43-km climb, which is a tough one. The Coll de Rates has 347 meters of elevation gain and pros use it often for tests. Pogi’s ride averaged 32.3 km/h, placing him ahead of Peter Øxenberg Hansen and Tobias Svarre, who both sit at 12 minutes and 38 seconds.
Probs the biggest red flag was the average watts, 233. That ain’t enough to compete with the current God of Watts of cycling.
Just so silly that people do this. Right? Like it’s lame-o.
Here’s an idea for 2026. Can we stop with fake Strava posts? Or flagging guys like Pogi when he kills it? Or how about leaving pros alone when they are racing? I am pretty sure other world champs like Mathieu van der Poel would dig this. Next year is around the corner, lets make 2026 a gooder.
Somebody got bored, created a Strava account under the name Jonas Vingegaard, and rode Coll de Rates on a scooter just to make the news. 👎🏼
