Early Friday morning, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, 53, posted the snap to inspire fans with New Year’s transformation goals.
The picture showed the then-13-year-old, wearing blue and red shorts and no shirt, flexing his arm muscles and smiling at the camera.
He didn’t have the massive biceps and chiseled abs he’d had for most of his career, first as a professional wrestler and later as a notable actor.
Young Dwayne also had a small afro, instead of his signature shaved head, which he’s sported for over two decades.

Dwayne commented on his former looks in his caption and noted that the picture was taken in his native Honolulu, Hawaii.
“Amateur afro, fugazi gold chains, breasts desperately in need of a training bra,” the Jumanji actor joked.
“There’s hope for everyone. Happy New Year, my friends.”
Fans raced to the comments, with many pointing out the athlete’s mature appearance even at a young age.
“Man you look at LEAST 27,” one person wrote, while another laughed, “13 or 35?”
Others admired the star’s significant makeover over the years, both physically and professionally.
Dwayne followed in his father’s (Rocky Johnson) footsteps, becoming a professional wrestler, where he earned his nickname The Rock.
He began acting in the late 1990s and early 2000s, before transitioning to acting full-time in 2004.
The movie star has earned many awards and recognitions for his work in productions such as Moana, the Fast & Furious films, and Ballers.
Most recently, Dwayne was nominated for his first Golden Globe award for his performance in The Smashing Machine, in which he portrays mixed-martial arts and UFC champion Mark Kerr.
The father of three got emotional at the Venice Film Festival in September after receiving a 15-minute standing ovation for his performance.
He wiped away tears at the audience’s applause, including from his co-star, Emily Blunt, who plays his wife in the film.
Dwayne lost a drastic amount of weight for the role, shocking fans who said he looked half his former size.
