After a turbulent offseason, LIV Golf look set to ramp up their transfer activity by signing two tour champions…
LIV Golf appear to be closing in on deals to sign two more tour winners.
The breakaway league has had a quiet offseason in terms of incoming players, with the biggest news so far being Brooks Koepka’s seismic decision to walk out on his lucrative contract as Smash GC captain a year early.
Laurie Canter and Victor Perez have both signed ahead of next month’s season-opener in Riyadh next month, joining Zimbabwe’s Scott Vincent and Japan’s Yosuke Asaji – who both qualified from the Asian Tour’s International Series.
But several signings still need to be made to complete LIV’s roster – which has been extended to 57 players ahead of the league’s fifth season in 2026.
And with the clock ticking, there has now been some movement in the league’s search for new players.
The Times‘ Tom Kershaw reports that Thomas Detry, the world No.57, is set to swap the PGA Tour for LIV.
Detry, 32, was briefly in contention for Luke Donald’s European Ryder Cup team at Bethpage after breaking through with an impressive – and Gary Player-inspired – seven-shot victory at the WM Phoenix Open last February.
His form faded, but he still finished inside the top 50 in the FedEx Cup standings and he is the highest ranked player expected to join LIV during this offseason.
Detry will reportedly join fellow Belgian Thomas Pieters at Dustin Johnson’s 4Aces, with Harold Varner III moving to Koepka’s former Smash side in a big team shake-up.
Another player reportedly set to join LIV is Australian youngster Elvis Smylie, who won his maiden DP World Tour event at the Australian PGA Championship in November 2024, is also expected to make the switch.
The talented 23-year-old lefty finished 23rd in the Race to Dubai standings last season is likely to replace Matt Jones on Cam Smith’s Ripper GC team.
TG has reached out to LIV for comment on Detry and Smylie.
