As we welcome the new year, tech companies from around the world are descending on Las Vegas to showcase the latest in consumer products for the Consumer Electronics Show (CES).
Since 1967, the CES has been an event known for showcasing the latest high-technology devices, with over 4,000 different exhibitions.
More than 140,000 people from 150 countries attended last year’s show and a similar number is expected to attend this year’s event.
Despite officially kicking off Tuesday, tech companies have already started showing off their latest robots, TVs and other tech gizmos as a preview to get consumer’s attention.
These are some of the top technologies showcased so far.
Artificial Intelligence
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is being incorporated in many older traditional products as well as newer ones with promises to make life easier.
“It helps you make decisions in life. You put in the facts, and it comes back and solves the problem,” said Gary Shapiro, CEO of CES.
Robots
As always, robots take centre stage, whether it’s robotics for children, a chess game to keep you company, or personal robots for companionship and home security.

If you’re too busy to cook, let a robot take over.
“Nosh is a robot that can cook. There are 500 meals used across different cultures and it helps the users eat healthy meals everyday,” said Amit Kumar Gupta, with Nosh Robotics.
Robot advocates say that in the future, robots may act as companions to residents in their homes. They can keep individuals company, help them walk, get around, and alert authorities if its owners get sick or fall.
TVs
This year, LG has a new wallpaper TV. It’s ultra-thin, only nine-millimetres thick.
“It’s basically a little thicker than a pencil as you can see behind me, it kind of blends into your environment,” said product marketing spokesperson, David Park, with LG Electronics.
