AuGRES – Scoring 71 goals in a single season tends to garner plenty of attention. AuGres senior Analeis Ming did just that last spring, playing with Standish-Sterling’s co-op team and now she’ll look to keep up her prolific scoring ways at the next level, as she recently signed to join the soccer program at Knox College in Galesburg, Ill.

“It meant a lot (to sign),” Ming said, who plans to major in biology said. “I invited a lot of people, but when I finally got there and there was all those people, it was heart warming. Everyone was there to support me, people who have been a part of my journey for so long; my soccer team, my basketball team, I had friends come from far away so it was nice to see everyone there.”

Ming was also appreciative of being able to play high school soccer. Since AuGres does not have its own team, student athletes wishing to play soccer have the option to play with Standish-Sterling; and that’s something she has taken full advantage of.

“It has helped a lot for getting me to where I need to be,” Ming said. “If you don’t have a high school program and looking to get into a sport, it is constant club stuff and club soccer is awfully far away. So, having an opportunity to have a high school team and it can really help you get your name out there.”

As for how it came to be that Ming decided on Knox College, it was a pretty simple process, really.

“I went to a camp there over the summer, it was nice,” she said. “I went on an official visit with them and I loved the team atmosphere and the culture and the opportunities that they have there. I wanted to study abroad and they gave me a great opportunity to do that. It was really nice and they really seem to want to foster your education.”

Ming is a solid basketball player for the Wolverines as well, but for her, playing soccer at the next level was just always on her radar.

“I’ve always wanted to play, as a kid you always want to be a professional athlete and as I’ve grown up the next step is college and really exploring which college will be the right fit while still having an opportunity to play,” she said.

While her attention will soon shift to college, Ming still has one more high school season ahead of her this spring. She scored 71 goals last year, and there’s no telling what she will accomplish in her final campaign.

“I’m really excited for this season, you never know how it is going to go team wise and I’m not sure on a number (of goals) yet,” Ming said. “Before my junior season I never thought 70 was possible.”
