January 7, 2026 – Emporia State soccer had 16 players earn MIAA Academic Honor Roll recognition, including Isla Theakstone and Avery Zimmerman who posted 4.00 GPA’s to earn the Academic Excellence Award. In addition, Ruby Ryan, Abby Bachman, Mackenzi Goen, Madeline Bracy and Megan Kephart were all named MIAA Scholar Athletes.
Isla Theakstone and Avery Zimmerman, who both posted 4.00 GPA’s, received the MIAA Academic Excellence Award, which is Zimmerman’s second academic honor after being named to the newcomers list last year. Ruby Ryan, Abby Bachman, Mackenzi Goen, Madeline Bracy and Megan Kephart earned MIAA Scholar Athlete recognition for excelling in both the classroom and receiving All-MIAA recognition on the field. This is the second straight season that Hornet Soccer has had four or more players named MIAA Scholar Athletes.
In addtion to those seven, Megyn Mahloch, Aubrey Seltman, Ella Ruliffson, Hailey Gancarz, Taylor McFalls, Mikhaela Goen, Asta Kristindottir, Megan Jeremias and Sade Lee were recognized on the MIAA Academic Honor Roll.
To be recognized on the Academic Honor Roll, one must have a grade point average used by the institution for purposes of NCAA academic certification of 3.00 at the certifying member institution. The individual must also have at least two terms of attendance at the certifying member institution, excluding summer terms.

To qualify as a Scholar-Athlete an individual must have a grade point average used by the institution for purposes of NCAA academic certification of 3.50 at the certifying member institution. The student-athlete must have at least two terms of attendance at the certifying member institution, excluding summer terms. If competing in a championship sport of the MIAA, the student-athlete must also earn All-MIAA honors from the 2024 season.Â

These academic awards do not include first-year freshmen or first-year transfers. The MIAA will release its Newcomer Academic Awards from the 2025-26 academic year in the summer of 2026.
