Wednesday was report-card day in the Canadian Football League, as the players’ association released its annual rankings of the league’s teams based on a number of categories.
The Saskatchewan Roughriders, for the second consecutive season, received an overall grade of B.
Riders colour analyst Luc Mullinder was on the SportsCage and reacted to the B.C. Lions who were given an ‘F’ in the category of nutrition and diet.
“This is something that I’ve been particularly envious of in terms of the current generation of players. When I first got into the league, we didn’t have the budgets that folks do now, but Toonie Tuesday was a thing. Like, Norm (Fong) would just pile up these greasy boxes of chicken from KFC and just pass them out like it’s Halloween candy. Toonie Tuesday was an exciting day in the locker room, right? These days, they’re actually passing out fruit, vegetables, things that build back into your recovery. We were going Toonie Tuesdays.”
Mullinder added, “We used to go crazy over that Toonie Tuesday. Nothing like going out to practice and then getting this big, greasy chicken. The boxes that sat in Norm’s area of the equipment room had arrived early. So, the boxes were just already falling apart because of the grease that was just going through. These days, these players, they don’t know how good they got it.”
