On the morning of Dec. 18, a private jet went up in flames after crashing at Statesville Regional Airport. The Cessna 550 aircraft, owned by Greg Biffle, crashed on the runway while attempting to land.

Highway Patrol officials said the crash occurred after the airplane “departed the airport and was immediately returning to the airport on reapproach.”

Officials confirmed there were seven occupants and no survivors. The victims were identified as Greg Biffle, his daughter Emma, his wife Cristina, their son Ryder, and three others: Craig Wadsworth, pilot Dennis Dutton and his son Jack Dutton.

NASCAR LEGEND GREG BIFFLE REMEMBERED ON AND OFF TRACK FOR COMPASSION IN RECOVERY EFFORTS

Biffle was a two-time national series champion and has been named one of NASCAR’s greatest drivers. Following his win in 2000, Biffle won both the 2000 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series championship and the 2002 NASCAR Busch Series championship, making him the first driver to win both titles.

Biffle is remembered largely for his recovery efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. After the storm struck, Biffle used his personal helicopter to search for survivors and deliver necessary supplies to those in need.
