Brundidge native Matthew Heffner will have a shot at a vacant amateur flyweight championship on Aug. 23.

Brundidge’s own Matthew Heffner – an undefeated top-ranked amateur MMA fighter – will hit the ring for his next fight on Aug. 23.

Heffner will face off against Lucas Gideon at Gladiator Promotions’ Beatdown at The Beach 36 in Panama City Beach, Fla., on Aug. 23. The fight will be for the promotion’s vacant amateur flyweight championship.

Heffner is currently the No. 2-ranked amateur flyweight in North America and is 8-0, winning his last fight on Jun 27 by unanimous decision. This will be Heffner’s third fight of 2025, after also winning by knockout back on April 18.

Gideon is a 3-1 fighter out of Springfield, Missouri. He won his last fight via a rear naked choke submission on June 21.

Heffner will look to add another championship to his trophy case at the event, which takes place at the Edgewater Beach Event Center in Panama City Beach, Fla., on Aug. 23.
