Michael Morales has a big fight on the horizon, but doesn’t know if his next trip to the Octagon will come against a former UFC champion or a current one.
The UFC’s welterweight division is arguably the most stacked weight class in MMA right now and that includes Morales. The talented 26-year-old is currently 7-0 in his young UFC career and coming off a first-round knockout win over proven contender Sean Brady at UFC 322 this past November. There’s been some discussion about Morales getting his first-ever UFC title shot his next time out, but things remain in limbo.
Morales, who has amassed a perfect 19-0 record over eight years as a pro, is open to whatever the promotion throws his way. This could be a No. 1 contender’s matchup against former UFC champion Jack Della Maddalena or even a clash with current 170-pound titleholder, Islam Makhachev. Morales is just looking to keep sharpening his skills.
“UFC told me about a possible fight against Jack [Della Maddalena] for March or April,” Morales recently told ESPN Deportes. “I think they also proposed a fight with Makhachev for January, and he didn’t want to accept either. If I can get a fight against Jack, one more fight to gain experience, and if it’s with Makhachev, I’ll accept it too.”
