Canadian running back Jeshrun Antwi has announced his retirement from the CFL after five seasons in the league.
The 28-year-old appeared in 10 games for the Calgary Stampeders in what would prove to be his final season, rushing 16 times for 56 yards.
“Part of the journey is the end. The last five years have been a dream. Thank you to Coach Dave Dickenson and the rest of the Calgary Stampeders coaching staff for allowing me to fulfill a lifelong goal of representing the horse,” Antwi said in a statement. “It was an honour and a privilege to wear the Calgary Stampeders jersey, and I could not think of a better way to end my career.”
Originally selected in the sixth round of the 2019 CFL Draft, Antwi played 77 career regular-season games with the Stampeders, Montreal Alouettes and B.C. Lions. He carried the ball 216 times for 1,154 career rushing yards, adding 52 catches for 342 yards and 18 special-teams tackles. He also played in six postseason contests and won a Grey Cup in 2023 with Montreal.
“I’ve known Jeshrun for close to 10 years, and it was great to have him with the Stampeders in 2025,” general manager and head coach Dave Dickenson said in a statement. “I know he’ll be successful in whatever path he chooses.”
Prior to turning pro, Antwi played five years for his hometown University of Calgary and was part of their 2019 Vanier Cup win. He accumulated 2,233 career rushing yards and 18 rushing touchdowns for the Dinos, as well as 55 receptions for 479 yards and five scores.
The Calgary Stampeders finished third in the West Division standings in 2025 with an 11-7 record, but lost the West Semi-Final to the B.C. Lions. Vernon Adams Jr. threw for 4,247 yards, 21 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions over 17 regular-season starts, posting an 11-6 record.
The Stampeders ranked fourth in net offence, seventh in net defence, and second with a turnover differential of plus-nine. Dedrick Mills won the CFL’s rushing title with 1,409 yards, while the team’s leading receiver was Dominique Rhymes with 886 yards, and the leading tackler was Jacob Roberts with 102 tackles. Calgary finished fifth in attendance with average crowds of 22,295, which was a 3.5 percent increase from the previous year.
