Phil Mickelson’s message to Anthony Kim after Promotions success

Phil Mickelson has hailed Anthony Kim’s remarkable journey back to professional golf after the American secured a spot in the 2026 LIV Golf League.

Mickelson, who has been a central figure in LIV Golf since its inception, praised Kim’s determination on social media, calling his story “truly inspirational.”

“AK gets his life back and now his golf game is back. He’s on LIV Golf for 2026. Congratulations! Truly inspirational.”

Kim, reflecting on his journey, spoke about the motivation behind his return.

“I’m not here to prove everybody wrong. I’m here to prove myself right,” he said after finishing third to reclaim his full-time LIV Golf status.

“I’ve worked so hard, and this little girl right here is one of the reasons why. Obviously, my wife has been so supportive. I’ve had so much support behind me all year, the last two years since I’ve been back. I’m so grateful that I’m back on the stage.”

A comeback story years in the making

Kim’s return to the sport has been one of golf’s most compelling stories. Once seen as a future star, he won three PGA Tour titles and played for Team USA at the 2008 Ryder Cup before injuries and personal issues led him to step away from the game for over a decade.

He came back to professional golf in 2024 as a wildcard entrant with LIV Golf. Despite a challenging start and relegation after the 2025 season, Kim refused to give up.

He entered the Promotions event — a tough four-round contest offering three league places — and shot rounds of 66 and 69 over the weekend to finish third at five-under-par.

His performance not only secured his place in the 2026 LIV Golf League but also showcased his determination to rebuild his career.

Kim will join Canada’s Richard T. Lee and Sweden’s Bjorn Hellgren in the 2026 LIV Golf League when the season begins next month in Riyadh.
