Former UFC champ Luke Rockhold has been a busy man over the last few years. From the sound of it, he won’t be slowing down.
Rockhold spent many years as one of the best middleweights in MMA, notably capturing the Strikeforce and UFC middleweight titles. However, he parted ways with the UFC in 2022 following a string of losses to Yoel Romero, Jan Blachowicz, and Paulo Costa.
Since then, Rockhold has been trying his hand at nearly every combat sport out there. First, he stepped into the BKFC ring for a bare-knuckle clash with Mike Perry, which he lost by stoppage after having his face smashed. Then, he headed to the Karate Combat pit for a fight with former kickboxer Joe Schilling, which he won with a highlight-reel KO. From there, Rockhold returned to his grappling roots, losing a decision to Patrick Downey at the first Craig Jones Invitational event. Next, he suffered a brutal knockout loss to the boxing ring to Darren Till.
Finally, and most recently, Rockhold stepped onto the mats for a wrestling match with fellow MMA star Colby Covington at last weekend’s RAF card. Unfortunately for him, that outing resulted in another loss via points.
The former UFC middleweight champ was somewhat quiet in the days following his loss to Covington. However, on Monday night, he released a statement addressing the loss and his future in the sport.
Interestingly, he suggested his next move might be to try his hand at Power Slap, Dana White’s controversial and concussive “slap fighting” league.
He may have been joking, but he also didn’t specify the remark was in jest.
Luke Rockhold headed from UFC to Power Slap?
“Compete, challenge myself, get in shape, learn a new sport and get paid with no risk,” Rockhold wrote in the caption for his post. “Lost a few points but had a good time. Happy to see wrestling make it to the big stage.
“Power slap, see you soon,” he added.
