African Lion Safari ranks in top 10 list of worst zoos for elephants

African Lion Safari has made the list of 10 worst zoos for elephants in North America.

It’s fourth on the list compiled by the group “In Defense of Animals”.

The group accuses the park in Rockton, Ont. of prioritizing profit over animal welfare through an aggressive elephant breeding program.

“In Defense of Animals” says elephants are forced into unnaturally frequent pregnancies, invasive procedures, and live in confined spaces that contribute to disease, stress, and early death.

Advocates are calling for an end to captive elephant breeding and a move toward sanctuary care.
