Most of us have been on a date that didn’t quite go according to plan.

Well, the same thing apparently happened to Russian socialite Ksenia Sobchak, who recently shared a story about going on a date with Vancouver Canucks legend Pavel Bure.

Russian media was apparently hot after the pair in the early 2000s about whether they were in a relationship or not.

Neither Sobchak nor Bure confirmed they were in a relationship. And, thanks to a recent story from Sobchek, we may know why that’s the case.

During an episode of Caution: Sobchak, from the celebrity’s YouTube channel, Sobchak told a story about a romantic date she had with Pavel Bure that went awry.

“This was very long ago,” Sobchak explained, in a clip translated from Russian. “Pavel Bure was courting me, and it was such a beautiful, romantic evening. It had everything: a fireplace burning, candles, this super romantic setting.”

It certainly sounded like the start to an enchanting night, but it didn’t go the way Sobchak envisioned.

“So, here I am, sitting across from this guy,” she said. “Young, hot, all muscles, great.”

“We’re sitting there, and he’s like, ‘You know what I thought would be a great plan for tonight? Let’s watch my best goals.’”

Sounds like a dream night for Canucks fans.

For a Russian celebrity who isn’t familiar with hockey? Not so much.

“I have absolutely no f****** clue about hockey,” Sobchak said. “Like, I have no idea how it’s even played. I kind of know you need sticks, and that’s literally all I know.”

Sobchak claimed that for the next two hours, in front of the candlelight and the big screen television, Bure showed her his highlight reel.

“I was just sitting there like, ‘wow, you’re awesome, dude.”

The date apparently occurred shortly after Bure retired from the NHL and returned to Moscow. At the time, rumours of their relationship sparked after the pair was spotted in public together.

Bure got married to Alina Bure in 2009, and the couple has three children together.

As for Sobchak, the daughter of former Russian mayor of St. Petersburg, Anatoly Sobchak, she has no hard feelings towards Bure about the awkward encounter.

“Pavel, sorry, you’re great, love you,” she said.
