Two young Victoria Golf Club caddies have been awarded with a four-year housing and tuition scholarship, valued at around $125,000, for their “strong caddie record, excellent academics, demonstrated financial need, and outstanding character.”

Sean Enwright of Victoria and Elizabeth Zielinski of Creston will begin university this fall with support from the Western Golf Association’s (WGA) Chick Evans Scholarship, Canada’s largest privately funded scholarship.

“Sean and Elizabeth have exemplified the qualities of hard work, integrity, and character that define an Evans Scholar,” said Jenny Dobell, a WGA Director and member of the Victoria Golf Club, in a news release. “Their achievements at our club and in their communities are remarkable, and we are thrilled to celebrate this milestone with them.”

Enwright, who is interested in studying business and economics, balanced school, sports, and family responsibilities while caddying.

“Caddying has taught me the value of hard work, responsibility and confidence. The Evans Scholarship gives me the opportunity to continue my education and pursue my goals,” he noted in the release.

Zielinski, meanwhile, plans to study graphic design and says caddying has strengthened her work ethic and professionalism.

“Caddying has taught me confidence, perseverance and how to connect with people. The Evans Scholarship allows me to pursue my dreams while carrying forward the lessons I learned at the club,” she said in the release.

Scholarship winners have a cumulative GPA of 3.3, and a 98 percent graduation rate. Around 40 per cent are first-generation college students, and 96 per cent are employed or enrolled in graduate school within six months of graduating.
