Mohammed Usman will have to wait until April 2028 to make his UFC return following a lengthy suspension handed out earlier this week, but the UFC heavyweight is taking full responsibility for his actions.
On Thursday, UFC officials released a statement regarding a massive 30-month suspension slapped on Usman for a failed drug test back in 2025. Not only did Usman pop for elevated levels of testosterone, but he apparently misled and lied to investigators during the entire process. It was not a good look for the brother of UFC legend, Kamaru Usman, which is the reason for the long suspension from competition.
After about 24 hours to digest the news, Usman hit social media on Friday to explain what happened with his failed drug test and ultimately accept the punishment. Check out his Instagram post below:
“I want to address my suspension. During my recovery, I made a mistake while trying to heal, and I take full responsibility for it,” wrote Usman. “This time has allowed me to get my health back, focus on my family, and gain a deeper appreciation for life. I have breath in my lungs, life, and I’m truly blessed.
”I’m taking things one day at a time and staying committed to growth and doing things the right way. I’m grateful to the UFC, Rashad, Ali, and Brian and all my coaches for their continued support. We move forward.”
Usman, who will turn 38 before he’s eligible to return to UFC in 2028, is 4-2 since joining the UFC roster back in 2022. “Motor” has been competing against lower-level competition in UFC’s heavyweight division, but he’s still proven to be a serviceable member of the roster.
It’s still a little shocking that UFC officials didn’t release Usman following his failed drug test, but family ties often run deep.
