Central defender Joel Waterman is not expected to suit up in Canada’s friendly tonight against Guatemala due to a lower-body injury, per TSN’s Matt Scianitti.
Scianitti reports that Waterman picked up the injury in training this week, but it’s not a big concern, and the team is sitting him out so he can be ready for the MLS season.
Waterman was traded to the Chicago Fire from CF Montreal in August in exchange for $500,000 in general allocation money.
The 29-year-old has earned 15 caps for Canada internationally and was a member of the 2025 CONCACAF Gold Cup squad, 2024 Copa America and 2022 FIFA World Cup rosters.
