Canadian Football League fans are digesting the outcomes of this week’s winter meetings in Calgary. Their primary focus has been on the rule changes coming this year and in 2027.

However, the SportsCage’s Arash Madani thinks that there are bigger things that should be focused on.

“To me, the bigger questions are what’s ahead? What’s coming? What’s going to be different? What should we be expecting on field in 2026 and 2027 beyond what we already know? What are your priorities beyond rule changes for the actual on-field football? What do you want to see different?” Madani pondered.

“There’s a lot of talk now, are they going to separate the East and West divisions? Is it just going to be a nine-team league, almost like the premiership? Who’s top of the table? I’m indifferent towards that. I’m not passionate about the East versus the West. I think if you have the two top teams in the league playing for a championship, that’s fine with me. But I’m interested to see where else they want to take things. I think that the rule changes have just taken up so much oxygen over the last six months.”
