Red Dead Redemption players on Xbox Series X have finally started getting refunds from Xbox after all the controversial upgrade issues a few months ago.
For a long time now, it’s been rumoured that Rockstar Games is working on a current-gen upgrade for Red Dead Redemption 2 that would bring the Xbox and PlayStation versions up to par with PC. That made it all the more surprising when Rockstar randomly announced yet another upgrade for the original Red Dead Redemption back in November of last year.
The arguably pointless upgrade for Red Dead Redemption annoyed some fans, but none more than anyone who was trying to get the upgrade on Xbox Series X. For whatever reason, Rockstar and Xbox weren’t letting a lot of players upgrade their version of the game for free as promised, with both pointing the blame at each other.
If You Spent Money Upgrading Red Dead Redemption On Xbox Series X, You Might Have A Refund Waiting
I Guess That Means It Was Xbox’s Fault
It’s been nearly two months since all of the issues with Red Dead Redemption’s upgrade path on Xbox, but it seems like it’s finally been resolved for some players. As pointed out by RockstarINTEL, Redditor SaucyChief recently shared a post on the Xbox subreddit that shows a message they received from Xbox Support.

I Forgot How Unsettling Red Dead Redemption Is
To this day, Red Dead Redemption’s final chapter unnerves me more than most horror games.
The message says, “Red Dead Redemption was intended to be free for those who had previously purchased a digital copy of Red Dead Redemption”, before confirming that a refund for the upgrade has now been issued. This seems to confirm once and for all that the problems were actually down to Xbox and not Rockstar, as they aren’t the ones refunding the upgrades.
It’s not just SaucyChief who has recently received a refund for the upgrade woes, either, as several commenters in the thread confirm that Xbox messaged them the same thing. While it did take nearly two whole months for the situation to be resolved, Xbox players can at least rest knowing that they won’t have to shell out extra for the slightly shinier version of Red Dead Redemption.
