Now, will the New York Mets pay the free agent cost to land Cody Bellinger and take him from the New York Yankees?
That’s what The Big Apple’s baseball fans will have to wait and find out.
But a new report indicates that the Yankees are set pretty firmly on their final offer to Bellinger.
Newark Star-Ledger veteran Bob Klapisch reported this on Sunday:
“#Yankees have made an internal decision not to engage in a bidding war for Cody Bellinger if #Mets or anyone else swoops in with a blow-away offer. Yankees believe they’ve made a fair proposal – five years, $160 million, two opt-outs. They’re prepared to let Bellinger walk.”

So there you have it — can the Mets beat five for $160 million?
Steve Cohen certainly can, if the Mets’ owner wants to.
Bellinger would be a huge boost in a position the Mets never figured out in 2025: centerfield.
The athletic lefty is a smooth outfielder in addition to being a slugger at the plate.
This would also be a chance for the Mets to snag a key piece from the Yankees for a second consecutive offseason. Last year, of course, it was Juan Soto.

If the Mets get Bellinger, too, that’d be quite the theft. And they know what it’ll cost.
