Ontario’s special investigations unit (SIU) is probing a police-involved shooting in Oshawa, Ont. that saw both a Durham officer and suspect shot.

According to the SIU, Durham Regional Police responded to a residence on Cedar Street in Oshawa at approximately 11 a.m. Sunday for a mental health call.
Shortly after arriving, officers encountered a 27-year-old man who allegedly had a knife.

The SIU says during an interaction, one officer fired their weapon multiple times, hitting both the suspect and another officer.
Durham police said in a statement earlier in the day that the officer was transported to hospital and was in critical but stable condition. The suspect was also taken to hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
