Chris Pratt Addresses Star-Lord’s MCU Future After Avengers: Doomsday Cast Exclusion

When the expansive Avengers: Doomsday cast was revealed, fans were equally excited about some of the bigger returning stars and perplexed about heroes who were omitted. One surprising exclusion was Chris Pratt, who has played Peter Quill/Star-Lord since 2014 and was teased to return at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Recently, Pratt addressed whether he would return to the role. “We made a promise with ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ that Star-Lord would return,” Pratt stated (via ScreenTime on X). “I think I would really love to make good on that promise.”

Notably, Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3 saw Peter leave the Guardians and return to Earth to reunite with his grandfather, which would put him on the same planet as the Avengers and potentially prompt him to join the fray. As such, he was speculated to appear in Doomsday, but when the viral cast reveal ended, Pratt’s name was not on the list.

Since then, other previously unconfirmed returns, such as Chris Evans, have been revealed. This means that Pratt could be a secret or supporting player in the film. Alternatively, he and the rest of his Guardians cast mates, none of whom are on the Doomsday roster, could return later in Avengers: Secret Wars instead.

With regard to not being in the Doomsday cast reveal, Pratt joked: “I don’t know! I think it was, like, far off… They must have cut away from it. I don’t know what happened. I don’t know. It was there. I’m sure it was there.” Taking a more serious tone, he reassured Star-Lord fans that his hero would come back in some form.

“I can’t say, for fans of mine, where they’ll see Star-Lord again, but I can tell them we made a promise at the end of [Guardians of the Galaxy] Vol. 3 that the legendary Star-Lord will return, and he will return,” Pratt added. Additionally, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige has teased more cast members for Doomsday, saying that they “revealed many, not all.” This leaves the door open for more surprise appearances like Evans in the film’s first trailer, boding well for a possible Star-Lord cameo.

Avengers: Doomsday will release in theaters on December 18, 2026.
