The 2026 World Tour starts on the heat scorched hills of South Australia with six stages of action that begin with an incredibly short 3.6km prologue.

Following this evening hit out which will more than likely reward a true specialist rather than a contender for the overall, the race heads right into three testing stages. Although on paper they may favour a sprint finish, with plenty of hills on route, be prepared for some surprises.

As usual Stage five is the Queen stage and features three ascents of the legendary Willunga Hill, the third of which will almost certainly decide the winner of the race. Unless that is, they burn too many matches and can’t recover for the 170km final stage, with repeated climbs around the city of Stirling.

Favourites to take the Ochre Jersey and first World Tour win of the year will be Aussie star Jay Vine and his team mate defending champion Jhonatan Narváez (UAE Team Emirates-XRG), Kiwi, Finn Fisher-Black (Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe) and Ben O’Connor (Jayco AlUla) who will be desperate to put a terrible 2025 behind him.

For the sprint stages, all eyes will be on the young Mathew Brennan to see if he can pick up where he left off last year and continue his stratospheric rise.
