Arizona Men’s Golf came out on top in a Ryder Cup–style showdown against Arizona State, earning an 8.5–3.5 victory behind a dominant singles performance.
The Wildcats opened the day with alternate-shot foursomes, where the duo of William Wistrand and Matej Baca halved their match to earn a half point. Zach Pollo and Tianyi Xiong delivered Arizona’s lone foursome win, closing out their match 5&4. The pairings of Dillon Dean/Connor Hamm and Filip Jakubcik/Taishi Moto both came up short.
Arizona took control once singles play began, winning seven of eight matches against the Sun Devils. William Wistrand set the tone with a 2&1 victory, followed by Finn McCall and Dillon Dean, who each secured 2&1 wins. Tianyi Xiong battled to a 1-up decision, while Taishi Moto earned one of the more decisive wins of the day with a 3&1 win. Filip Jakubcik continued the momentum with a 2-up victory, and Zach Pollo closed out the scoring with a 2&1 win. Matej Baca dropped a hard-fought match, falling 1-down.
With the win over ASU, the Wildcats head to the championship match against UCLA, who took down USC today. Tomorrow’s match will begin with foursome alternate-shot in the morning, followed by singles matches in the afternoon.
