The proceeds from the event support summer camps and initiatives for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

The fat bike trails in the North Bay area are getting groomed for a very special February fundraiser.

Mark Lyons, Jack Lyons’ well-known father, is connecting with cycle enthusiasts Connie Hergott and Rod Bilz from the North Bay Mountain Bike Association in coordinating the fundraising winter bike ride called “Ride for Jack.”

Lyons says work is already being done on the trails for the event, which takes place on Saturday, February 21, at the Stepping Stones Trails in Corbeil.

“We’re going have the best trails in North Bay again,” said Lyons.

“We had a wonderful showing last year, the trails were in great shape. So, as long as we get the weather, our trails will be in perfect shape.

“Our communities really embrace the trails. We’ve got the spot with Jack’s bench with the Ride for Jack Trails, and it’s a beautiful place to hang out.”

The ride honours Jack Lyons, a North Bay teen who passed away in April of 2022.

The proceeds from the event support summer camps and initiatives for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

Mark Lyons loved when Jack could ride on his fat bike, which made this event so special for the Lyons family.

During the inaugural event in 2023, Lyons says they raised $12,500 in funds, which went towards One Kids Place Autism Camps.

In 2025, the fundraising count was around $16,000.

Lyons says the fundraising is important as the camps run by One Kids Place do not get government funding.

“The camps are all privately funded,” said Lyons, noting that families from as far away as London have inquired about going to the local camps.

The cost to participate in the 4th annual Ride for Jack is $40 before February 1 and $50 afterwards.

The event will also include a new kids’ snow zone. Hot soup and snacks will also be available at the event.

The event will be capped at 100 participants.
