It’s official: Bo Bichette‘s time in Toronto has come to an end.
The New York Mets announced Tuesday that they have signed the 27-year-old Bichette to a three-year deal with player options for 2027 and 2028. While the team didn’t disclose the financial details of the contract, it had been previously reported that Bichette will earn $126 million if he remains a Met for all three years of the contract.
“We are thrilled to welcome Bo to our organization,” Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns said in a statement. “Throughout his career, Bo has distinguished himself as one of the best pure right-handed hitters in baseball. He possesses the rare combination of elite bat-to-ball and power that will impact our lineup.
“Beyond his on-field skills, Bo has earned the reputation as one of the most intense competitors in our sport. We’re excited to add him to our team and believe he fits our organization very well.”
New York also announced that it will hold Bichette’s introductory press conference on Wednesday at 1 p.m. ET / 10 a.m. PT.
After beginning his career as a shortstop, Bichette is expected to shift to third base with the Mets, allowing Francisco Lindor and Marcus Semien to form New York’s double-play combination.
Bichette joins the Mets after spending the first seven years of his career with the Blue Jays.
The 27-year-old enjoyed an excellent 2025, hitting .311 with 18 homers, 94 RBIs and a .357 OBP before he sprained his left knee on Sept. 6 in a game against the New York Yankees.
He returned in time for the World Series, hitting .348 and launching a three-run home run early in Game 7 that, for a while, seemed destined for franchise lore.
Bichette debuted with the Blue Jays in 2019 after being selected in the second round, 66th overall, in the 2016 draft. For his career, he sports a .294 batting average with 111 home runs and 437 RBIs in 749 games.
