The Philadelphia Eagles know they aren’t Brian Daboll’s preferred choice as they search for a new offensive coordinator, according to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini.

Russini reported Wednesday that Daboll is prioritizing a return to the Buffalo Bills as their head coach. Failing that, he’s likely to join the Tennessee Titans as their offensive coordinator.

Russini previously reported Monday that Daboll “keeps coming up” in conversations about who will replace Sean McDermott in Buffalo. He’s set to interview with the team, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Daboll was the Bills’ offensive coordinator from 2018-21. During his final two years, he delivered a top-five unit in both yards and scoring.

His past success and strong rapport with franchise quarterback Josh Allen at least point to why he’s under consideration.

When Daboll posted a 20-40-1 record as head coach of the New York Giants, his return may not be received all that warmly by fans, though. It’s difficult to immediately see how he’d be an upgrade over McDermott.

If the Bills look in a different direction, Daboll’s apparent preference for Tennessee over Philly is a surprise to say the least.

One franchise is only a season removed from winning the Super Bowl and has a five-year streak of making the playoffs. The other hasn’t made the postseason since 2021 and has plenty of holes to fill in the offense.

Perhaps Daboll rates Titans quarterback Cam Ward very highly. The 2025 No. 1 overall pick showed some promise in a rookie campaign while throwing for 3,169 yards, 15 touchdowns and seven interceptions.

From Daboll’s perspective, turning Tennessee into a good offensive team and helping Ward develop may impress general managers more than maintaining what the Eagles already built.
