We received confirmation earlier today regarding three players, including Montreal Canadiens forward Patrik Laine.
In Brossard, the Canadiens sent a clear message ahead of the game against Buffalo.
On Wednesday morning, three names were left out of regular line drills during practice.
Alexandre Texier, Samuel Blais, and Patrik Laine skated with the extra players. All indications are that they should not play Thursday against the Buffalo Sabres.
That’s the flip side when injured players return at the same time.
The Canadiens have been talking about a surplus up front since the return of Kirby Dach and Jake Evans, and the situation tightens even more if Patrik Laine is truly ready to come back.
At some point, cuts have to be made.
Martin St-Louis appears to have made his decision: no Patrik Laine, Alexandre Texier, or Samuel Blais tomorrow, barring a change of plans
When a team plays the next day, the morning skate (the day before) is often a strong indicator.
Blais, meanwhile, has been through the wringer. He played 8 games in Toronto earlier this season and collected 3 points, with 1 goal and 2 assists.
He then filled up the scoresheet with the Rocket, posting 9 points in 9 games before being recalled.
And Laine remains a situation that draws attention, regardless of the lineup on any given day.
Last season, he scored 20 goals and recorded 33 points in 52 games. This year, he has 1 point in 5 games, and his return continues to be closely monitored.

“Dach is still with Suzuki and Caufield at practice this morning.
Texier, Blais, and Laine aren’t on a regular line.
Caufield – Suzuki – Dach
Slafkovský – Kapanen – Demidov
Gallagher – Danault – Anderson
Bolduc – Evans – Veleno”
